Station Overview

Station KE8FSY is a high-precision weather observation site located in Chesapeake, OH. Utilizing research-grade equipment, the station provides hyper-local data critical for situational awareness in the tri-state area.

Equipment & Sensors

The core of this station is a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS). The wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus is a research-grade weather station that includes all the features of the Vantage Pro2, plus UV and solar radiation sensors. The Vantage Pro2 Plus provides accurate and reliable weather monitoring with real-time data updates every 2.5 seconds.

Station Siting

To ensure high-quality data that meets Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) standards, sensors are sited to minimize environmental bias:

• Temperature/Humidity: To ensure meteorological accuracy, the station utilizes a 24-Hour Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield. This active cooling system uses a solar-powered fan to pull ambient air across the sensors, preventing heat buildup and providing highly accurate temperature and humidity readings even on calm, sunny days.
• Anemometer: Positioned at a meteorological standard height of 33', designed to capture unobstructed wind flow and minimize turbulence from surrounding obstacles.
• Rain Gauge: Mounted in an open area with a level opening to ensure accurate "catch" during precipitation events.
• Solar Radiation & UV: Mounted at the highest point of the ISS with a clear 360° horizon. These sensors are leveled precisely to measure global solar radiation (W/m²) and the UV spectrum (280 to 360 nm) without shading from nearby trees or buildings.
• Barometer: The precision solid-state pressure sensor is located within the WeatherLink Live console, providing stable, temperature-compensated atmospheric pressure readings.
