Meteorological Observation Site
Station KE8FSY is a high-precision weather observation site located in Chesapeake, OH. Utilizing research-grade equipment, the station provides hyper-local data critical for situational awareness in the tri-state area.
The core of this station is a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS). The wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus is a research-grade weather station that includes all the features of the Vantage Pro2, plus UV and solar radiation sensors. The Vantage Pro2 Plus provides accurate and reliable weather monitoring with real-time data updates every 2.5 seconds.
Integrated Sensors:
To ensure high-quality data that meets Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) standards, sensors are sited to minimize environmental bias:
Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP): By sharing data through CWOP, KE8FSY contributes to the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) database, used by the National Weather Service (NWS) for ground-truthing radar and improving local forecast models.
CoCoRaHS: As part of the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, this station provides vital precipitation data used by hydrologists and meteorologists to track storm intensity and drought conditions.
